Twelve Ninety Eight...

...has moved.

Tumblr offers a much cleaner, easier design, so hopefully moving the blog over there will get me posting more. Hope you will all keep following my work either there or on my flickr account.

Thanks,
Max

Moister @ 46 Madison DR. Newark, DE///05.11.09

So, check it out. Here's some new pictures from the show the other day at Chris's house. I was pretty pleased with how they turned out. They don't look as sharp in the uploads, so for a better view, check out my flickr.

Also, listen to Moister. These dudes are quite good.

It felt really good to do some live music shots again. Hopefully more coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Lots of other things to talk about, but nothing I particularly want to get into right now.

Hope you are all well,
Max

EDIT 05.13.09:

So, I woke up a bit early for work and rather than take the time to do anything that might need to be done (like clean) I'm going to go ahead and use this time to finish this update.

I got some baddish news yesterday in the form of not being able to finish my degree in the fall, but rather having to finish it in the coming spring of 2010. This means I'll be graduating a full year later than the rest of my peers. Not such a bad thing considering that's been the case with the majority of my friends that went to college. The bad part is that this really puts a dent in any plans for moving by the end of January. So, Chicago will have to wait for now, but at least I'll get to move there during the nicer months. Plus, this means I have the summer off from classes giving me more time to work on the various unfinished projects I've halfheartedly started over the past couple months. Expect more regular updates and new exhibitions in the coming months.

I've been in iffy health lately too. Not like, "Ugh, I'm going to die!" But more like not feeling well enough to do much of anything when I get off of work.

There's a couple albums I wanted to recommend, but it's time to brush my teeth and go to work.

Film scan party tonight! Alright!

I feel like ellipses after lyrics are cliche. However, lyrics as blog titles are extremely cliche on their own, so I guess I've got no room to pass judgement.

Oh yeah! Remember how I take pictures sometimes? Here, look at some!

More to come. I have a few more rolls to pick up and scan, but the schedule is all out of whack, so who knows when that'll be.

I also picked up a roll of the new Kodak Ektra 100. Not sure how new it is, but the shop by my house just started carrying it. I've got something special planned for that one, so it may be a little longer until I can post that.

Not much else going on. Weather is warming up, which is nice, so hopefully I'll be shooting more frequently in the coming months.

Take Care,
Max

Good Morning, Captain

So, i picked up those roles of film I was talking about. Now, it's just a matter of finding the time to get those scanned in and getting the next 6 rolls developed.

Took some pictures of Becca's new haircut for the hell of it. it was a nice day so I took my camera on our bike ride and shot at the park just down from the house again.

I recently acquired a Canon Rebel 2000 and I love it. Not the most technical camera in my arsenal, but the portability and light-weight make it indispensable now. Plus, having an aperture priority setting that actually works is a big plus.

More coming, but this will have to tide you over for now. I feel like the last picture is one of my favorite portraits that I've taken. it's a little early to make that statement since i took these yesterday because we'll have to see how time treats it, but, for now, I really like it.

Like I said, more stuff to come whenever I get around to scanning it in.

No new music this post. I've been too busy with back reviews and my own stuff to find anything new and noteworthy.

Take care,
Max

I feel like death...

For real. Straight-up death. And I'm sure I don't look all that pleasant right now either. According to Dan from work, I looked like a zombie all through my shift which is probably pretty accurate.

I've got about three rolls of film over at the camera shop and no money to pick them up :'( Very sad. I've also got two more that I need developed, so hopefully I can get that done soon. I really need to invest in getting my darkroom set up finally.

Anyway, once that gets done, I should have some new pictures.

ALSO!!! MARCH 13TH!!! I helped book a show!!! You should come to it!!!

Free and BYOB.

I'll have a flyer up soon. Maybe tomorrow.

In the meantime, more music recommendations.

Furnace - Self-titled 7"

Photobucket

I've been really into these guys for about a year, but last night was the first time I've actually gotten to see them and they didn't disappoint. Fast and spastic hardcore that's still heavy as hell. The self titled is great, but go see these guys live if you can.

The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2

Photobucket

On almost the complete opposite side of the spectrum, The Microphones' best album. This is a hard one to describe. It'd be much easier if you just listened to it. Start to finish though, none of this skipping around and listening to one or two tracks out of order.

Ok, I think that's all for now. I'm gonna go be sick for awhile.

Julian (Valentine's) Day

There's some more of these coming soon once I get the film developed. Hopefully they came out. This was my first time using 3200 film, so we shall see.

Also, here's some album recommendations for the hell of it.

Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters

Photobucket

Somewhere between Godspeed's Yanqui U.X.O. and Mayhem. One of the most oddly beautiful epic albums I've heard. Right up there with, coincidentally, U.X.O.

Jin'rik'sha - End Present (2x7")

Photobucket

Some very heavy His Hero is Gone-esque crust from Norway where all punk of this ilk should come from. As far as I'm aware, this is the only thing these guys ever put out which is really unfortunate because this is an excellent EP. If you can find a copy great, but if not here's a link.

The Sea Like Lead / Belegost - Split LP

Photobucket

The Belegost side is possibly the better of the two, but it's a great split all around. It would've been interesting to see a collaborative effort between these two bands at some point, but alas, they both are defunct now.

Ok, that's all for now. Enjoy your weekend.

Photographer Highlight: Kentaro Takahashi

Check out his website and his flickr.

Great portraits and some of the best neo-noir stuff I've seen in quite awhile.

Also, I've been doing some more experimentation my Lensbaby. You can get some really awesome effects with it, but it is a tricky lens to operate. Starting to get the hang of it though.

Trip to Chicago seems to be happening, so I should have some new interesting stuff for you guys when I get back on the 16th.

Take care of each other.

No matter how depressed I become...

...I can always rely on Morrissey as a constant source of amusement.

I will get around to posting more pictures soon. I've just been lacking so much motivation lately and that really needs to change.

On that note, here's a few more pictures from the beach.

Ummmmmmmmmm...what?

Photobucket

Not only is this confusing on the "Who would want that?" level, but also on the "I'm pretty sure I've never seen a baby with hair there." level.

Regardless, I'm seriously considering sending these out as christmas presents if I can figure out how to order them.

More to come...
Max.

EDIT:
Upon further inspection, the doll is not available for purchase, but was part of an art project. My disappointment is unreal.

I Love Paris.

Photobucket

Found this on "2 or 3 things I Know."

Jarmusch being among my favorite directors and artists, naturally this caught my eye.

Wish I'd gotten to talk longer with him when I took that one.

Currently spinning Ella Fitzgerald Sings More Cole Porter and wishing tonight had turned out differently.

The '08 Tape...

Photobucket

So, here's a 2008 sampler of sorts. Keep in mind, there is so much more that came out in 2008 that is worth listening too, but this just had such a good flow to it.

Side A:
Fucked Up - Son The Father
Titus Andronicus - Titus Andronicus
No Age - Neon Creeps
Los Campesinos - 2007, The Year Punk Broke (My Heart)
Atlas Sound - Quarantined
Earth - Engine of Ruin
Sun Kil Moon - Tonight The Sky
City & Colour - The Girl

Side B:
Boris - Message
Crystal Catles - Crimewave (Crystal Castles VS. Health)
M83 - Graveyard Girl
Tapes 'N Tapes - Hang Them All
Deerhunter - Nothing Ever Happened
Vivian Girls - Where Do You Run To?
Lemuria - Length Away
The Mountain Goats - Marduk T-Shirt Men's Room Incident
Black Mountain - Stay Free
Margot & The Nuclear So-and-Sos - Jesus Christ Blues

Ok. This is an indie heavy mixtape, I'm not gonna lie; and I know I totally lose punk points for a few of these, but still...it flows so well and I really like all these songs. At least I can admit to my guilty pleasures haha.

Now let's see your mixtapes.

City & Colour

Her are the pictures from the last minute City & Colour shoot. The show was sold out but Heather and I were able to get in as long as we agreed to take over for Ian, the guy I write for at punkbands.com, who was supposed to interview Dallas Green that night.

Plus, I got a photo pass.

This was one of the many occasions on which I wish I had the money for a 50D and some longer lenses. The 50mm f/1.8 and my XTi got the job done, but there's so much more I could have done with my ideal concert combo. I could go into more detail with that, but that would be a nice, easy, setup to work with at venues.

Speaking of equipment at venues, I was really suprised that I was able to pull of the f/2.8 with no flash at the Trocadero. Thank you fortunate lighting god. You are my saviour.

The rest of the beach pictures will be up shortly after the 20th. That's the next time I will have access to a good film scanner. I'm hoping to have a couple other roles done by then too, but we shall see.

Until then, take care. (I need a cleverer send-off. Thoughts?)
Max.

Beach Pictures...

...are almost done.

Sorry for the tease, but this is the slowest scanner ever.

Also, there seems to be something of a happy accident happening with these.

Here's a couple to look at until the rest are done.

Hope you enjoy it.
